Do you like old movies? So does Martin Scorsese
“Movies are the memories of our lifetime. We need to keep them alive.”
That’s part of what Martin Scorsese had to say in his speech at the Golden Globes about the importance of preserving old. You can hear and see the rest of what he had to say here:
it can be very difficult to find prints of older films, but we’re constantly on the lookout for classics and forgotten treasures. What old films would you like to see at the Mayfair?

Any Howard Hawks or John ford movies. (Only Angels Have Wings, To Have and Have Not, Rio Bravo, Red River, The Searchers, Rio Grande, She Wore a Yellow Ribbon, Fort Apache, Liberty Valence, etc.)
Lots of classic film noir.
I’d kill to see some Douglas Sirk movie on the big screen (All That Heaven Allows, Time to Love and a Time to Die, Written on the Wind.) Max Ophüls too!!!!!!
Yes, more noir would be fantastic. Perhaps some Billy Wilder films like “Double Indemnity” or “Sunset Blvd.”
If the Mayfair could get a print of Orson Welles’ “Touch Of Evil” I could die a happy man!
All — thanks for your suggestions. We’re currently on the hunt for several of the suggested prints. If our screenings of Some Like it Hot do well, you can probably count on seeing more Billy Wilder.
And the restored Touch of Evil is a good bet for the near future, too.

I agree that Sunset Boulevard would be great, i would love to see a late showing of that movie.
I would also absolutely love to see Freaks in your beautiful cinema. Or the original Haunting. Oh, and the original Texas Chainsaw Massacre.
There’s a great new DVD out called Shock Cinema (I think…) that has countless grindhouse trailers on them. Flesh Gordon, The Stuff, Hell Night, etc.
Any of those (especially 70s horror) would be a great addition to the roster. I remember you guys playing a lot of horror for a while a few months back – I miss that! I showed up for each and every one of them, befuddled-but-charmed friends in tow!
I’d like to see some Hitchcock movies, Rear Window, Suspicion, Vertigo, or those gangster flicks from the late 30′s, like Roaring Twenties.
I wholeheartedly agree with the Roaring Twenties, and a need for a Hammer film fest.
Hard to narrow it down but here’s a few; Woman in the Dunes (Suna no onna), Red Desert (Il deserto rosso), Shoeshine (Sciuscia), Fellini’s Satyricon, a couple of the lesser known Altmans ’3 Women’ and ‘Images’, Bring Me the Head of Alfredo Garcia, The Emmigrants and it’s underrated sequel The New Land, Seppuku, I could go on but, I need to put in a couple of genre films as well.
Westerns: Anthony Mann’s ‘The Furies’, The Searchers, anything by Boetticher (too hard to decide on one), again more but, I’ll leave it at that. A spaghetti festival including The Big Gun Down, and Run Man Run would be fun too for sure.
Noir: Night and the City, The Big Heat, Kiss Me Deadly, Asphalt Jungle, Double Indemnity, Black Angel, just off the top of my head but I’ll stop there

Horror: The Abominable Dr Phibes, Dead of the Night, Night of the Demon (Tourneur), I Walked with a Zombie, Don’t Look Now, The Innocents, Legend of Hell House, Raw Meat, I promise I’ll stop now before I mention matinees of old Shaw Brothers martial arts movies and the entire Lone Wolf and Cub series
